Insider’s Guide to Los Cabos
The area situated between Cabo San Lucas and its bohemian sister city San Jose del Cabo is collectively referred to as Los Cabos. Known for its laid-back luxury, this special place where the desert meets the sea is a vacationer’s dream. With warm weather year-round and so many activities are your fingertips, Los Cabos makes a perfect destination to own a vacation home. Let’s explore its many attractions.
Los Cabos is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Where these waters converge, the water is deep and warm—with an average temperature of 75-degrees—making it a perfect environment for a variety of marine life. Popular activities include whale watching and snorkeling excursions where visitors are sure to see an abundance of sea life.
Cabo is also well-known for being a deep-sea sportfishing destination. The waters of the Baja are full of world-class billfish and prized catches like tuna, snapper, marlin, mahi mahi, and more.
Getting out on the water is a must-do for any vacation in Los Cabos. Full- and half-day boat charters are popular, many of which include on-board amenities such as drinks, snacks, and water sports equipment. And you can’t lose with a sunset cruise to see the area’s famous El Arco at dusk.
Medano Beach is one of the most swimmable beaches in Cabo, offering easy access to plenty of water activities like kayaking, parasailing, and jet skiing. Playa Santa Maria and Playa Chileno are some of the best places for snorkeling—the water is very calm and you can see plenty of fish.
Los Cabos is home to a seemingly endless number of excellent restaurants, ranging from stunning fine dining establishments to charming, authentic eateries.
The Medano beach area is known for its innovative culinary scene, overflowing with elegant beachside bars and restaurants. An Inspirato favorite is El Farallon; boasting a secluded cliffside location overlooking the Pacific, you can hear the waves crash as you peruse the ocean-to-table menu featuring the daily catch from local fisherman.
Another favorite is Manta, an intimate and artful space overlooking Cabo’s famous rocky formation, El Arco. Manta’s menu features sophisticated, yet casual, Baja-inspired dishes made up of local ingredients sourced from the region.
For a unique and immersive dining experience, a trip to Flora Farms is worth the 30-minue drive from Cabo. The organic farm in the foothills of San Jose is an ideal setting for a leisurely lunch or dinner. It’s award-winning restaurant, Flora Fields Kitchen, features dishes made entirely from ingredients grown on the property or at the larger farm a few miles away. Guests can make an afternoon out of perusing the grocery store, ice cream cart, and gorgeous grounds.
To get a taste of the local culture and art scene, head to San Jose for its Thursday evening art walk. While exploring the galleries lining the cobblestone streets of the city's historic Distrito del Arte, you can sip wine, sample cheese, and interact with some of the top artists and gallery owners in the area. Afterward, meander through the art district’s bars and restaurants, like the Baja Brewing Company and La Lupita Taco & Mezcal.
Golf & Outdoor Adventure
With 18 courses in the area, Los Cabos dominates the golf scene in Latin America. Several of the world’s best golf course architects have laid plans in Los Cabos—golfers can choose from six championship courses, including Cabo del Sol’s Ocean Course designed by Jack Nicklaus.

A Homeowner Success Story on Kiawah Island
Kristin Lauro and her family have been vacationing on Kiawah Island since her children were toddlers. “My youngest son was a wild man… he loved to run and play with absolutely everyone, now he’s 26 years old.” Lauro explained. Unlike the beaches her family frequented in the Northeast, the first time they went to Kiawah, “my boys could roam up and down the beach, and I could read a book and still see they were safe. Kiawah is such a safe place for families with children that moms get a vacation, too!”
